Energy Around Us

Course: 25.107 - Introduction to Engineering I

Partner: Tsongas Industrial History Center


Project Description: Energy Around Us.  In this Introduction to Engineering course, approximately 354 freshmen students created posters and demonstrative exhibits illustrating “energy around us” principles of engineering.  The Tsongas Industrial History Center displayed the exhibits to educate K-12 students about energy.


Learning objectives met by the S-L project were for students to:

  • Understand the role of analysis in engineering
  • Be able to structure an engineering analysis
  • Understand the product development process
  • Be able to objectively evaluate the performance of a design
  • Be able to perform a design/ build/ test project
  • Be able to work constructively within a team


Community objectives met by the S-L project:

  • Engage K-12 students
  • Encourage K-12 students to pursue education and careers in STEM
  • Increase awareness of K-12 students about UML
